About the Intensive

This summer audio/video intensive is a unique opportunity for aspiring engineers to immerse themselves in the art and craft of live concert recording. Designed for college-level students and emerging professionals, this program blends hands-on training with real-world experience, all under the guidance of Darryl Kubian, a seasoned audio/video engineer with over 30 years of industry experience. Participants will work at Darryl’s state-of-the-art studio nestled on a picturesque farm in Vermont, gaining invaluable insights and skills that go far beyond the classroom.

You’ll be part of a small, select group of students, ensuring personalized attention and tailored instruction. The curriculum combines group classes, private lessons, and collaborative projects with live recording assignments, giving you the tools and confidence to handle high-pressure, professional audio and video environments.

 

Highlight of the week includes assisting in the live recording (both audio and video) of two performances by the Craftsbury Chamber Players, featuring world-class musicians in a stunning Vermont setting. You’ll also gain access to exclusive opportunities, such as assisting with a concert in the prestigious Parlance Chamber Concert series in New Jersey, a series known for hosting internationally acclaimed artists.

6 Days, plus optional internship opportunity during Winter, 2025-26

Location

Brownington, Vermont. (2 hours south of Montreal, or 3 hours north of Boston, MA.)

Application Deadline

April 1st, 2025. Acceptance letters will be sent out by April 18th, 2025. Early application is encouraged. 

Age Range  & Number of Students

Applicants should be 18 years of age or older by July 21, 2025. Only six (6) spots are available.

Tuition

$3,300. Tuition includes room and board, as well as lunches.

Live Concert Recording

You’ll assist in recording audio and video for two live performances by the Craftsbury Chamber Players. These concerts are held in Vermont’s beautiful, intimate venues, offering unique acoustic challenges and opportunities. Working alongside Darryl, you’ll set up, capture, and produce recordings, gaining firsthand experience in managing the audio and video capture of live concerts.

Individualized Mentorship

Since attendance is capped at six (6) students per summer, each participant will have one-on-one sessions with Darryl Kubian, and personalized attention, and can focus on specific areas of interest and professional improvement. Whether it’s mastering microphone placement, learning the nuances of post-production editing, or refining your understanding of live sound dynamics, these tailored lessons will help you elevate your engineering skills.

Hands-On Learning

Participants will receive instruction on professional audio and video equipment, including microphones, mixing consoles, cameras, and editing software. You’ll explore advanced recording techniques used in live settings, such as multi-microphone setups, mixing for different acoustic environments, and syncing audio with video. Through hands-on practice, you’ll gain the skills to tackle real-world engineering challenges.

Collaborative and Independent Projects

Participants will engage in group or paired projects designed to simulate real-world teamwork in production. Additionally, you’ll have time for independent work, where you can experiment, practice techniques, and apply what you’ve learned. By the end of the intensive, you’ll leave with a tangible portfolio piece showcasing your contributions to these projects.

Intern with IndigoFox Media

​As part of the intensive, participants will have the chance to continue their learning journey by interning with Darryl Kubian as his assistant for a live recording of a concert in the prestigious Parlance Chamber Concert Series in Ridgewood, NJ. This hands-on experience working with world-class musicians will provide invaluable industry exposure and a deeper understanding of professional concert production.

Who Should Attend?

This high-level, focused program is ideal for:

  • College students or recent graduates in audio or video engineering. (Students must be 18 years or older to attend.)

  • Professional musicians looking to deepen their recording expertise.

  • Individuals interested in capturing live performances with professional-level precision.

  • Applicants are expected to have a foundational understanding of common audio and video techniques and equipment, along with some prior experience in using them.

Program Details

  • Dates: The 6-day intensive begins on Monday evening, July 21, 2025, and concludes on Saturday morning, July 26, 2025.

  • Location: IndigoFox Media Studio is located on a serene farm in Northern Vermont, offering a unique environment for creativity and focus.

​

  • Eligibility: This program is designed for college-age students or individuals with an equivalent level of interest and experience in audio and video engineering.

​

  • Availability: Only 6 spaces are available to ensure a personalized and immersive experience. Early application is highly encouraged.

​

  • Application Deadline: Applications for the Summer 2025 program must be submitted by April 1, 2025. Invitations to selected participants will be sent by April 18, 2025.

​

  • Cost: $3,300 (includes tuition, lodging, and some meals during program hours). Lodging is located within 10 minutes of the Studio by car.
